The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension in the University of Mumbai was
earlier known as the Department of Adult Education and later as the Department of
Adult and Continuing Education. Although, this department was established on 12
October 1978, it was recognized as a legally recognized department after 1994.
The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension of the University of Mumbai
functions in two ways. One is that many courses are conducted in this department to
impart ever-changing education to the people. It provides education up to primary, 10th,
12th and degrees for children, people who cannot continue their schooling due to
various reasons. Also, many types of short-term certificate courses are available which
are held continuously throughout the year.
After the year 2006-07, the contours of the work of this department changed and
various youth development activities are undertaken through the Department of
Lifelong Learning and Extension in every college of all the universities of Maharashtra.
Through this activity, the personality of the students can be effectively developed.
Business development and social commitment activities are implemented for the
students as well as various social oriented knowledge extension programs are organized.
In this the role of social commitment adopted by the University of Mumbai and our
college is fundamental.
Various skills to college students through Department of Lifelong Learning and
Extension at University of Mumbai are introduced through following schemes and
programmes.
By conducting district level training program, this department informs its various
activities to the college and students through field coordinators, extension work teachers
and student managers. It also helps to understand the changes taking place in the
education sector.
The college with an aim of undertaking projects related to social issues, two projects out
of the above six namely Population Education Club and Survey of Status of Women
were being implemented in our college since 2006-07. These include various types of
pollution and its effects, global warming, status of women in India, successful women in
India, etc. The above projects are implemented based on media such as seminars, essay
competitions, posters, exhibitions and discussion sessions. While doing this, UDAAN
FESTIVAL is a celebration for the students. It consists of street plays and mural
competitions, in the last two years it consists of poetry, elocution and clay modelling. In
which all the colleges having this department in the district participate.
In this, our college has presented street plays and posters on topics like national
integration, women's issues, farmers' suicides, traffic problems, violence-free villages.
And the special thing is that our college has achieved the first, second, third and
motivational numbers in this. Also, our college got the opportunity to conduct various
district level training programs and UDAAN FESTIVAL in the year 2012-13 and 2014-
15.
The most important thing is that many students like Aniket Pawar, Harish Ghag, Prayal
Jadhav, Aditya Oak, Nikita Jain, Jayesh Ghase, Sampada Mestri etc. participated in this
activity in the last 15 years and did excellent work in street plays and mural
competitions and got special skills. The number of activities of DLLE help in building
the confidence and social consciousness of the students.
